Tre Steger-Smith

Tré retired from the Department of Navy in 2014 and is proud to have a combined total 20 years of experience in both federal and private industry human resources and financial management. She believes that to be a successful human capital management professional in the 21st century workplace, it is paramount to know the finances or the "bottom line" of an organization.  This experience gave her the foundation she needed to understand how money relates to people and how limited resources are applied to the mission.

Tré pursued her PhD at Capella University in Organizational Management with an emphasis in Human Resources.  She has completed her Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) with a Human Resources Concentration from Columbia Southern University; a Bachelors of Science in Management Organizational Development from Mount Olive College and two Associate Degrees, one in Pre-Pharmacy and the other in Pre-Social Work from Coastal Carolina Community College in Jacksonville, NC.

Tré also holds a Certificate in Strategic Workforce Planning (SWP) from the Human Capital Institute; a Certificate in Human Resources Management from Columbia Southern University; a Presentation Certificate from The University of New Mexico, and a Certificate in Financial Management from the Graduate School USDA. She has a Level I certificate from the Graduate School USA in Human Resources. She is a Certified Federal Job Search Trainer (CFJST) and Certified Federal Career Counselor (CFCC) through the Federal Career Training Institute located in Baltimore, MD.

She is active member and has served in a leadership capacity for the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the Human Resources Management Association of New Mexico (HRMA-NM) including past positions as Mentor Leader 2002 (Northern Virginia SHRM), Mentor Trainee 2001 (Northern Virginia SHRM), and Federal Liaison (HRMA-NM), Human Resources Society Prince George's County (HRSPGC). She is a member American Training and Development (ATD), National Association of African Americans in Human Resources (NAAAHR), the Human Capital Institute (HCI), National Career Development Association (NCDA) and the Knowledge Management Institute (KMI). She holds a lifetime membership in Blacks in Government (BIG) and Toastmasters International.

Tré is also active in her community and personal associations, serving in leadership positions for several boards and foundations.
